Can I connect a PS5 controller to a PS4?

I’ve recently upgraded to a PlayStation 5 and absolutely love the new DualSense controller. However, I still own a PlayStation 4 and was wondering if it’s possible to use the PS5 controller with it. I’m curious about the compatibility between these two generations of consoles. Is the PS5 controller recognized by the PS4 system, and if so, are there any limitations or specific steps required to make this connection? Any clarifications on this would be really helpful because I would prefer using one controller for both systems if that’s an option. My PS4 controller is showing signs of wear, and I’d like to make the most out of my new DualSense controller.

When I tried to connect my PS5 controller directly to the PS4, it didn’t work. The best workaround I found was using Remote Play. Here’s the process:
1. Set up Remote Play on your PC or another device.
2. Connect the DualSense to this device.
3. Control the PS4 via Remote Play using the DualSense controller. This method isn’t perfect and relies on a strong internet connection, but it gets the job done.

After some attempts, I realized the DualSense doesn’t sync directly with the PS4. By using third-party software, I managed to create a solution. Here’s what worked for me:
1. Download and install DS4Windows on your PC.
2. Use Bluetooth to sync the PS5 controller to your PC.
3. Run the software to emulate a DualShock 4. Through Remote Play, my PC then allows the PS5 controller to work on the PS4. Note that some functionalities specific to the DualSense won’t be available, but basic controls work fine.

Yes, you can use a PS5 controller on a PS4, but it requires an extra device. The PS4 doesn’t naturally support the DualSense, but with a USB adapter, it becomes possible. Here’s how:
1. Buy a suitable USB adapter that supports both the PS4 and PS5 controllers.
2. Insert the USB adapter into one of the PS4’s USB ports.
3. Sync the PS5 controller following the adapter’s instructions. Typically, you press some buttons on both the controller and the adapter simultaneously. This essentially makes the PS4 think the PS5 controller is a DualShock 4.

I love my DualSense controller and hoped to use it with my PS4. However, after researching, I learned that the PlayStation 4 doesn’t natively recognize the DualSense without a workaround like an adapter or third-party software. Considering the hassle and potential limitations, I opted to stick with my DualShock 4 for PS4 gaming and keep my DualSense dedicated to my PS5.
