There isn’t a direct method to calibrate the iPhone’s touchscreen, but enabling AssistiveTouch can sometimes help. You can find this under Settings -> Accessibility. Turning on AssistiveTouch creates a floating on-screen home button that might improve touch sensitivity.

I faced this problem too, and it turned out the update had a bug. To fix it, I connected my phone to iTunes on my computer. I then performed a force restart by holding the Home and Power buttons together. Once in Recovery Mode, I chose ‘Update’ on iTunes. After restoring the update this way, my touchscreen started to work again.

I decided to contact Apple Support when my touchscreen became unresponsive. They suggested a factory reset, which solved the problem but did require me to restore my data from a backup. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings. Ensure you have a backup before performing this step.

For me, the unresponsiveness was due to iOS 11’s higher memory demands. Freeing up space helped drastically: I deleted unused apps, cleared Safari’s cache from Settings -> Safari -> Clear History and Website Data, and removed large old files in Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage. Doing this improved my phone’s touch responsiveness.

A weak Wi-Fi connection during the initial update can cause issues, including touchscreen unresponsiveness. Reinstalling the update under better internet conditions worked for me. In my case, the screen protector was causing the issue. I removed the protector, cleaned both it and the screen with a microfiber cloth, and the touchscreen started responding properly. If you have a protector, give this a try—sometimes it’s something as simple as that.
